How do we celebrate Walpurgis night tonight? Today
we build bonfires and make witches. We imagine a witch as an ugly woman who
has a hump, a wart on her nose, a cat on her shoulder and flies on a broomstick. At night, we light the witch on a bonfire. For me personally, it's rather odd that we're doing such a morbid thing again as burning people down (even if we're only doing it symbolically). Then we roast our sausages on the fire.
In some towns and villages, markets and concerts or even fireworks are associated with this holiday. Some people
dress up in costumes (it's actually a kind of Czech Halloween). It's an opportunity to get together and drink and eat together. The next day is a public holiday, so no one has to get up for work and everyone can stay up late.
